“WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS”

WLHF is not just another project, it is evidence of modern education,
an interdisciplinary community of inquiry.

The objective of our “With A Little Help From My Friends” project has been to develop language by paying homage to The Beatles. By language we mean: poetic language, visual language, artistic language, body language, musical language and construction of thought.

Along the process:

·   We acquired knowledge of who The Beatles were and the effects their music had in the world.

·   We inquired about The Beatles as a concept within their historical, social, political and artistic context.

·   We explored the Beatles discography in order to choose a song to work with.

·   We chose a song to work with according to the group’s level and personality.

·   We made this song the starting point for interdisciplinary connections, singing, raising questions, writing poetry, exploring art, painting, acting or performing, working with social studies and applying technology.

·   We formulated questions concerning: a song of The Beatles, the Historical context of the song and The Beatles as a group.

·  We analyzed the song, we chose to work with as a piece of literature in order to develop a poetic writing focusing on the context of the song, literary and poetic elements.

·   We wrote our poem on an extended long play.

·   We explored the aesthetics of albums or movies of The Beatles, John Lennon’s painting, Yoko Ono’s work and pop artists of the period in order to create an EP front cover for our selected song.

·   We wrote a rationale for our painting explaining what we would paint, how we would paint it and why we would paint it like that. The ethic and aesthetic importance of our piece.

·   We made a small EP cover and painted or designed a big EP cover.

·   We assembled the parts of our project.

·   We explored the concept “performance art”, defined it, talked about its antecedents, its interdisciplinary connections, its aim, its evolution, and its social importance.

·   We filled in a rationale to be able to stage our performance.

·   We staged our performance.

·   We participated in the school’s semifinals.

And we are here today, at this grand theatre, in the Staging the Song Finals, celebrating with you our accomplishments.
